Planning for a short hike to Mahoma trail on Rwenzori Mountains National Park for an ultimate Safari experience, book the 6 days mahoma trail & Chimpanzee Habituation in Kibale forest national park that starts and ends in Kampala or Entebbe International airport . 6 days Rwenzori & Primate Safari will take you through the 3 days Rwenzori mahoma trail where you will be required to have ground tents with you and chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National Park where you will have a chance to spot the humans immediate cousins that share 98% of our DNA.
Day 1: Kampala to Nyakalengija
Pick up from your hotel in Kampala at 7am a drive straight to Kasese- Nyakalengija which is about 7 hours drive. There will be a stopover in Mubende for lunch. Check in at Ruboni Community Camp, have dinner and spend the night.
Day 2: Nyakalengija to omuka kizza(2400m)
Have breakfast at the camp, get all your things ready and start the Mahoma trail walk. You will ascend through the rain forests along the Kyambogho ride where you will have a view of the Mubuku valley and the Rwenzori Mountains.
As you move, you will expect to see blue monkeys, colobus monkeys, some birds like the Rwenzori Turaco, three horned chameleon. You will reach the Omuka kizza camp where you will have dinner and spend the night.
Day 3: Omuka kizza to lake Mahoma(3000m)
Have breakfast at the camp then proceed with the trail. You will move through the bamboo and heather forest and you will expect to see some forest elephants or their footprints in this area.
Day 3: Transfer to Rwenzori with game drive in Ishasha
You might as well find them having a drink at the hot springs. You will move along the ridge that leads to the Rukenga valley where you will see giant lobelias that can grow for up to 8 meters or more and the everlasting flowers that are so beautiful to look at – making it a beautiful spot for taking photos. Reach the campsite near Lake Mahoma where you will have dinner and spend the night.
Day 4.Lake Mahoma back to Nyakalengija
With your luggage transfer to Kibale National Park, Have breakfast at the camp s, walk around the Mahoma Lake (the deepest lake in the Rwenzori) and then descend back through the Mpanga ridge that will lead you to the Mubuku valley and Continue to Nyakalengia.
Your guide will be waiting for you at the base and then transfer to Kibale Forest National Park. Check in at Isunga lodge where you will have dinner and spend the night.
Day 5. Chimpanzee habituation
After breakfast at the camp, you will drive to Kibale Forest National Park headquarters where you will briefed about the activity by the park ranger guide. You will then start the trek in to the forest to search for the chimpanzees / Chimpanzee habituation is a full day activity where you will follow the chimpanzees from the time they wake up to the time they go to sleep. You will then return to the camp, have dinner and spend the night.
Day 6. Drive back to Kampala
After breakfast at the lodge, you will check out and drive back to Kampala. The driver will drop you at your hotel in Kampala or at the airport for your night back home.
