Day 1: Nyakalengija (1650m) to Nyabitaba Camp (2650m)

Start your trek by arranging for necessary equipment and guides at the Rwenzori mountaineering reservation office. The trail begins at the park gates, winding through local homes and fields. Traverse high elephant grasses and dense bush, crossing the majestic River Mahoma before ascending steep cliffs to reach Nyabitaba Camp. Enjoy the chance to spot wildlife, including the colobus monkeys and the remarkable Rwenzori Turaco birds. Overnight stay at Nyabitaba Camp.

Day 2: Nyabitaba Camp (2650m) to Guyeoman Camp (3505m)

Descend from Nyabitaba, following the trail through the forest until you reach the Kichuchu Bridge. From there, the hike becomes more challenging as you navigate slippery moss-covered rocks. Pass the Kichuch rock shelter, where you’ll catch glimpses of the stunning Portal Peaks. Journey through zones adorned with giant Heather, lobelia, and groundsel, and finally reach Guyeoman Camp. Marvel at panoramic views of Mount Baker. Enjoy dinner and spend the night at the camp.

Day 3: Guyeoman Camp (3505m) to Kitandara Lakes Camp (4023m)

Descend to cross the Mubuku River before reaching Lower Bujongolo Rock Shelter, a historic site from the 1906 Italian expedition. After a brief rest, the trail ascends steeply, hopping from tussock to tussock, before crossing a challenging bog. Ascend to the upper Freshfield Pass, offering mesmerizing views of Congolese homesteads, the twin lakes of Kitandara, and the majestic peaks of Mount Stanley, Mount Baker, and Weismans. Arrive at Kitandara Lakes Camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Kitandara Lakes Camp (4023m) – Summit Weismans (4500m) Peak – Freshfield Pass (4011m)

Begin your ascent to Weismans Peak, climbing through more boggy terrain and steep slopes. Traverse the magical Groundsel Gully, reaching the bare rocks of Weismans. Summit the peak, standing at an impressive 4,500 meters, and soak in the breathtaking views. Descend back to Freshfield Pass for dinner and wilderness camping overnight.

Day 5: Freshfield Pass (4011m) to Guyeoman Camp (3505m) – Nyabitaba and Nyakalengija

Descend from Freshfield Pass, passing through the cliffs of Kichuchu and the bamboo forest zones. Reach Guyeoman Camp and continue the descent to Nyabitaba Camp, where you can enjoy dinner and spend the night. Alternatively, have lunch and continue down to Nyakalengija for hot showers. Celebrate your incredible journey through the Rwenzori Mountains as you bid farewell to this stunning landscape.
